Profit & Loss answers the question you ask the morning after: how much money did that show make? Open the performance from AdminEvents and click Profit & Loss in the Money group.
This is per performance. Each night of a run has its own P&L.
Venue Admin only — box office staff cannot open it.
Bottom line
The top card gives you four numbers and the headline:
- Revenue — what came in
- Costs — what went out
- Gross margin — revenue minus costs, in green when positive and red when not
- Bar / attendee — bar revenue divided by tickets sold, or a dash when there is no connected point of sale
Under them, how full the room was: N of M seats sold (P%), when the show has a capacity.
Badges in the header tell you what is missing from the maths: No POS connected means no bar money is counted, No artist deal linked means the artist payout is treated as $0.
Gross margin is the venue's take from ticketing plus bar revenue, minus the artist payout. It does not include staff, rent, or cost of goods — Noctern never sees those. Treat it as the show's contribution, not its profit.
Ticketing
The Ticketing card works down from gross to what you actually keep:
| Line | Meaning | |---|---| | Gross ticket revenue | ticket money taken for this performance | | Discounts | promo codes, pricing categories and member benefits, subtracted | | Service fees (Noctern) | Noctern's ticket fee, subtracted | | Credit card fees (Noctern) | card processing, subtracted | | Sales tax (remit to state) | subtracted — it was never yours | | Box-office surcharge (yours) | added — your own fee, collected at the window and owed to you | | Fee share rebate | added, when your venue has one | | Ticketing take-home | the total of the above — what ticketing is worth to you |
Two more lines appear when they apply, as notes rather than maths: Refunds (already netted from gross), so you can see how much was given back, and a count of Comps at $0.00.
Bar
The Bar card shows Bar revenue (gross) for the show, with the number of point-of-sale transactions that closed inside the event window in its subtitle. View bar drill-down opens the item-by-item breakdown — see Bar sales for a show.
With no point of sale connected, this card says so and contributes nothing. Ask Noctern support to connect yours.
Artist payout
The Artist payout card shows what the show owes the artist, taken from the deal linked to the performance. With no deal linked it reads $0 and says so — the margin above is then your ticketing and bar take-home with nothing taken out for the act. Link a deal from AdminVenues[venue]Deals.
Imported sales
If tickets for this show were sold in the ticketing system you used before Noctern and imported, they get their own card: how many tickets, and their face value. That money is shown for reference only — it is not in Revenue or Gross margin, because Noctern never handled it. A note on the bottom-line card repeats the amount so the total is not read as the whole story.
For the same figures across many shows at once — and for export — use the Performance summary and Sales by event reports instead. See Sales and revenue reports.
Open a show that has sold tickets and read its Ticketing card from top to bottom, checking that Gross ticket revenue minus the fee and tax lines really does come to Ticketing take-home. Then compare Gross margin with what you expected to clear on the night.
