After an event is created, go to AdminEvents[event] and click Edit to adjust pricing, add discount categories, or change the event status.

Pricing tiers

Pricing tiers set the base ticket prices for each section of your venue. For a GA event, you typically have one or two tiers (for example, Adult and Student). For a reserved-seating event, each tier maps to a colored section in the seat map.

Each tier has:

  • Name — shown to buyers (for example, "Balcony" or "Floor")
  • Price — in dollars; for All-In events, enter the all-in amount the buyer pays
  • Description — optional short note shown at checkout

Changing a tier price after tickets have already sold does not refund or adjust existing purchases. It only affects future sales.

Pricing categories

Pricing categories are named discounts or surcharges within a tier — for example, Senior ($5 off), Member (free), or VIP (premium add-on). Categories appear as a dropdown at checkout and at the box office.

Each category has:

  • Name — shown to buyers and box-office staff
  • Price — the category's ticket price (not a discount amount — enter the full price for this category)
  • Sale window — optional start and end dates; outside this window, the category is hidden from public checkout but box-office staff can still apply it
  • Eligible roles — optionally restrict the category to members or specific patron groups

Categories with a closed sale window stay visible to box-office staff. Use this for staff-only rates or early-bird windows that have ended.

All-In pricing and binary search

When your event uses All-In pricing, buyers see a single price that includes all fees and taxes. You enter that all-in total, and Noctern uses a binary search algorithm to determine the base price that produces exactly that total after fees.

This means the per-ticket base price shown in reports may be a few cents different from a simple subtraction — this is normal rounding behavior.

Event status lifecycle

| Status | Who can see it | Notes | |---|---|---| | Draft | Admins only | Safe to configure without public visibility | | Active | Everyone | Appears in public listing; tickets on sale | | Cancelled | Everyone (cancelled badge) | Triggers patron notifications if configured | | Archived | Admins only | Removed from live list; not deletable |

  1. Go to AdminEvents[event] and click Edit.
  2. To add a pricing tier, scroll to Pricing tiers and click Add tier. Enter a name and price, then click Save tier.
  3. To add a category to a tier, click Add category under that tier. Enter a name, price, and optional sale window.
  4. To change event status, scroll to the Status field and select a new value from the dropdown.
  5. Click Save at the bottom of the form.

Archiving an event removes it from the public listing permanently. You cannot delete an archived event, but you can view all its data and attendees.

Try it yourself

Open an active event, add a "Senior Discount" pricing category priced $5 below the standard tier, and set a sale window that ends one week before the event. Save and verify the category appears in the box office but not in public checkout after the window closes.
