A show has one Hero Image and, optionally, a gallery of extra images shown as a swipeable carousel underneath it on the public page.

The hero image

Hero Image is in the Event Details card on the show's edit page. It does two jobs: it is the card image in listings, and it is the hero at the top of the show's page. It is locked to a 4:3 crop, and the page previews both uses so you can see what gets cut off.

Noctern keeps your original upload, so you can re-crop later without losing quality or having to find the file again.

A show with no hero image is skipped by Instagram posts — the posting schedule's Instagram preview says so. If you want a show on Instagram, give it an image.

The gallery

Open the Image gallery card. It is entirely optional and nothing is ever added for you: a show with no gallery renders exactly as it did before the feature existed, and the hero image is untouched either way.

  • Upload image — pick a JPEG, PNG or WebP. Noctern resizes it on the way up.
  • From artist — copy a photo from the assets of an artist on this bill. Only artists linked to the show (not typed in free-hand) have assets to offer; the button is greyed out, with the reason, when there are none.
  • Up to 24 images per show, counted for you under the buttons.
  • Reorder with the grip handle, or with the ▲ / ▼ buttons next to each image — the arrows work with a keyboard, the drag does not.
  • Each image takes optional Alt text describing it for screen readers.
  • The bin icon on an image removes it.

The gallery card saves immediately as you change it, not when you press Save Changes. That is deliberate — an upload is in storage the moment you pick the file.

A photo copied from an artist is a real copy, fixed from then on. If the artist later replaces their photo, deletes it, or comes off the bill, your copy stays exactly as it is. Remove it by hand if you no longer want it.

One gallery for the run, or one per night

By default the gallery belongs to the whole show and appears on every date. The card says which you are looking at: This gallery shows on every date of this show, or This date has its own gallery with a Customized for this date badge.

  • Customize for this date only — forks the show's gallery onto this one date. From then on, editing it changes this date and no other.
  • Reset to series — throws this date's gallery away and goes back to following the show's.

An empty gallery on a customized date means "no gallery on this date" — it does not fall back to the show's. Use Reset to series if what you wanted was to inherit again.

Try it yourself

Open a show's edit page, add two gallery images, reorder them with the ▲ button, give the first one alt text, then load the public show page and swipe the carousel.
