If your bar or concessions run on Toast, Noctern can import your closed checks and attribute that revenue to the right event — so a show's report shows ticket sales and bar sales together, not just tickets.
First: Noctern records Toast as your point of sale
The Point of Sale card only appears on your venue's Edit page once a Noctern admin has recorded which POS your venue runs — and it then shows the controls for that POS only. So the first step is to tell Noctern support you're on Toast.
Until that's done there is no Point of Sale card to paste your credentials into, and the connection is refused even if you reach the form another way. If you switch POS later, tell Noctern support: changing your recorded provider deletes the stored credentials for the old one, so you'll connect the new POS from scratch.
What to ask Toast for
Ask Toast support (or your Toast account rep) for Standard API Access — a machine-to-machine credential set scoped to read-only access on your restaurant. Make it clear you only need read-only access; Noctern never places orders, takes payments, or changes your menu through this connection. Toast will give you three values:
- A Client ID
- A Client secret
- Your Restaurant GUID (the unique id of your restaurant in Toast)
Treat the client secret like a password — anyone with it can read your Toast sales data.
Where the three values go
On AdminVenues[venue]Edit, find the Point of Sale — Toast card and paste the three values in, choosing Production (the default) unless Toast gave you sandbox credentials for testing. Click Connect.
Noctern immediately tries the credentials against Toast before saving anything — if they're wrong, scoped to the wrong restaurant, or Toast is unreachable, you'll see an error and nothing is stored. On success, the card shows your restaurant's name and timezone, confirming Toast accepted the connection.
Use Test connection any time afterward to re-verify the connection is still working, and Disconnect to remove it (Noctern stops reading Toast data immediately; nothing on the Toast side is affected).
What this powers
Once connected, an event's Bar Sales report pulls every check Toast closed during that event's active window and rolls it into gross, net, tax, and tip totals plus a top-items breakdown — alongside the event's ticket sales.
The attribution window
Noctern doesn't just look at checks between the event's start and end time — bars open before doors and often stay open after the show ends. The Point of Sale card also has two attribution-window fields:
- Minutes before start (default 60) — how long before the event's start time the window opens
- Minutes after end (default 30) — how long after the event's end time the window stays open
If your bar opens earlier or closes later than that, widen these (0–720 minutes each) so the report captures the sales that actually belong to the event.
