Lesson 7 of 8

Marketing automations — triggered email sequences

Venue AdminSuper Admin

Automations send an email automatically based on a trigger — without you having to run a campaign each time. Use them for pre-event reminders to ticket holders, post-event follow-ups, new-purchase welcome messages, or win-back emails for patrons who haven't attended in a while.

What automations can do

An automation has three parts:

  1. Trigger — the event that starts the automation, with a timing offset you configure
  2. Audience filter (optional) — limits which patrons are eligible even when the trigger fires
  3. Email — subject, body, and merge fields, identical to a campaign email

Available triggers

| Trigger | Who it emails | When | |---|---|---| | Before an event (reminder) | Ticket holders for an upcoming occurrence | N hours before the event starts | | After an event (follow-up) | Ticket holders for a completed occurrence | N hours after the event ends | | After a purchase (welcome) | The patron who just bought tickets | N days after the purchase confirms | | Lapsed patron (win-back) | Patrons who have not placed an order recently | N days since their last order |

You set the N (hours or days) when you create the automation.

Setting up an automation

  1. Go to Admin → Venues → [your venue] → Campaigns and click Automations.

  2. Click New automation.

  3. Enter a Name for the automation (internal label).

  4. Select a Trigger from the dropdown and enter the timing offset (for example, 24 hours before, or 3 days after purchase).

  5. Optionally pick a Limit to audience — a saved audience that filters who is eligible. Patrons who do not match the saved audience are skipped even when the trigger fires.

  6. Write the email Subject and Body, using merge fields as needed.

  7. Toggle Enabled and click Save.

Monitoring sends

Each automation row shows Sent, Opens, and Clicks counts so you can see at a glance how each is performing. Click into an automation to see its send log — every patron who received it, the date sent, and the trigger event that caused the send.

Enabling and disabling

The Enabled toggle on each automation pauses or resumes sends without deleting the configuration. Disabling an automation does not retroactively cancel emails already queued for delivery.

Automations respect marketing consent. Patrons who have opted out, have a bounced address, or have spam-complained are skipped automatically — even for event reminder and follow-up sends.

Try it yourself

Create a "Post-purchase welcome" automation with trigger After a purchase (welcome) and a 1-day offset. Write a subject of "Thanks for your tickets, {{firstName|there}}!" Toggle it enabled. After your next test purchase, check the send log the following day to confirm it fired.

Try it

Create a disabled automation that fires a few days after a first purchase, limited to one of your saved audiences. Save it, read the send log tab, then leave it disabled.

  2. 2. What does the Limit to audience setting do on an automation?

  3. 3. Which of these is a supported trigger?
