The Profit & Loss page answers one question for one show: what did it bring in, what did the artist cost, and what was left.

Getting there

  1. Open the event from Manage Events.

  2. In the Money card, click Profit & Loss.

The link is for a single performance. On a series that has no performance selected it is greyed out.

Venue admins can open this page. Box-office staff cannot.

Bottom line

The first card sums the show up in four figures:

| Figure | What it is | |---|---| | Revenue | Ticketing take-home plus Bar revenue (gross) | | Costs | The Artist payout from the deal linked to this event | | Gross margin | Revenue minus Costs — green when positive, red when negative | | Bar / attendee | Bar revenue divided by tickets sold |

Under the figures, a line shows seats sold against capacity, and — when the show had tickets imported from a previous ticketing system — what those sold for. Imported money is shown for reference and is not in Revenue or Gross margin.

Two badges can appear at the top right: No POS connected (so there is no bar revenue to show) and No artist deal linked (so the artist payout is $0).

This is not a full profit and loss statement. It leaves out staff, rent, production, marketing and cost of goods — Noctern has no record of those. There is nowhere on this page to enter them.

Ticketing

| Row | What it shows | |---|---| | Gross ticket revenue | Face value of the tickets still valid for this show | | Discounts | Promo code and other discounts | | Service fees (Noctern) | Noctern's service fee on those tickets | | Credit card fees (Noctern) | Noctern's card fee | | Sales tax (remit to state) | Sales tax collected | | Box-office surcharge (yours) | Your own box office fee. Shown only when there is one | | Fee share rebate | Your negotiated share of Noctern's service fee. Shown only when there is one | | Ticketing take-home | What ticketing earned your venue: your ticket revenue, plus your box office fee, plus the fee share rebate | | Refunds (already netted from gross) | For information — refunded tickets are already out of the gross figure above | | Comps | For information — how many tickets were given away |

Ticketing take-home is the same figure Noctern uses for the event's payout. It is not always the rows above it added and subtracted: when fees and tax were charged on top of the ticket price, the buyer paid them, so they are listed for reference and do not reduce your take-home.

Bar

Bar revenue (gross) is what your point-of-sale system rang up during the event — sales plus tax, without tips. It appears only when your venue has a point-of-sale system connected. Click View bar drill-down to see the sales behind it.

Artist payout

The Artist payout comes from the settlement on the deal linked to this event. If no deal is linked, the page says so and treats the payout as $0 — link the deal to get a true margin. See Deals and settlements.

Things to know before you rely on it

  • It is live. The page is worked out each time you open it. A show still on sale will keep changing, and a later refund lowers the numbers after the fact. There is no "final" stamp.
  • Venues with their own connected Stripe account. The ticketing rows count only orders that Noctern collected. Orders paid straight to your Stripe account are left out of Gross ticket revenue and Ticketing take-home, so for a fully connected venue this card shows little more than the fee share rebate. Use Sales by event for ticket revenue instead. See How your venue gets paid.
  • Imported tickets count toward seats sold and Bar / attendee, never toward money.
  • There is no download or print button. Use your browser's print if you need a copy.

For every show at once rather than one at a time, use Sales by event — its Net column is each performance's ticket revenue.
