Lesson 48 of 56

Confirmation instructions and your card statement name

Venue Admin

Go to AdminVenues[venue]Edit and open the Confirmation instructions card. You need the Venue settings permission.

This one card holds two things that both reach the buyer after they have paid: what the confirmation says, and what your venue looks like on their card statement.

Confirmation instructions

A rich-text editor for what buyers should know before they arrive — parking, doors time, bag policy, where will-call is, accessibility. Whatever you write here appears:

  • in every confirmation email your venue sends, and
  • on printed tickets,

unless a particular event overrides it from its own Confirmation instructions card.

Keep it to the handful of things that cause phone calls. Doors, parking, and the bag or camera policy earn their place; a full FAQ belongs in Event Page Content, which buyers read before they buy.

Test it before a show goes on sale

Send test confirmation sends a real confirmation email to you, with your instructions in place, so you can read it the way a buyer will. The toast tells you which address it went to.

Card statement name

Card statement name controls the text a buyer sees on their bank or card statement next to the charge. The card shows a live preview of the finished descriptor, which always begins with Noctern's own prefix:

NOCTERN* YOUR VENUE

Rules the field enforces for you:

  • Letters, numbers and spaces only — accents are folded (Théâtre becomes THEATRE), punctuation is dropped, and the result is uppercased.
  • Up to 12 characters. Anything longer is cut.
  • At least one letter. A digits-only name is rejected and Noctern falls back.

Leave it blank and Noctern works the name out for you: your nonprofit legal name if you have one saved, otherwise your venue name, otherwise TICKETS.

This is the single biggest cause of chargebacks at a new venue. A buyer who sees a name they do not recognise calls their bank, not you. Use the name on your posters and your door — not a legal entity nobody has heard of.

Click Save at the bottom of the card to save both fields together.

What this card is not

  • Event reminder emails before the show are not set here. They are sent by your venue's Automations, under "Before event".
  • Event Page Content, a separate card further up the page, is what buyers read on the event page before buying.
  • Which address the email comes from is the Email sending card — see "Sending email from your own domain".
Try it yourself

Write a one-line parking note, set your card statement name, save, then click Send test confirmation and check the email for both your note and the right sender.

Checkpoint

Answer all 3 questions correctly to mark this lesson complete.

  1. 1. A venue leaves Card statement name blank. What does a buyer see on their statement?

  2. 2. Why does an unrecognizable card statement name matter so much?

  3. 3. Where would a venue set up a reminder email sent a few days before the show?
