GREG NORTON & RYAN SMITH: SONGS AND STORIES Friday, October 9 • The High Hat • St. Paul Two longtime fixtures of the Minnesota music scene, Greg Norton and Ryan Smith, come together for an intimate evening of songs, stories, and acoustic music at The High Hat. Greg and Ryan currently play together in Ultrabomb, the punk rock power trio also featuring drummer Derek O’Brien of Social Distortion and Agent Orange. The band’s new album, The Bridges That We Burn, is out now on DC-Jam Records/Virgin Music Group. Their musical histories run deep. Greg is the bassist and co-founder of legendary Minneapolis trio Hüsker Dü, while Ryan is the guitarist for Soul Asylum, co-founder of The Melismatics, and a longtime songwriter, producer, and fixture of the Twin Cities music community. For Songs and Stories, Ryan will begin the evening with “Made in Minnesota,” a solo acoustic set paying tribute to songs and artists from Minnesota’s incredible musical history. Greg will then join Ryan for a loose, intimate set drawing heavily from Ultrabomb, along with songs from Hüsker Dü, other projects they’ve been involved with, Minnesota classics they want to pay homage to, favorite covers, and whatever else feels right in the moment. Along the way, they’ll share stories from their lives in music and the songs and people that have connected them. Two friends, a couple of acoustic guitars, and a whole lot of Minnesota music history.
